A gentleman contacted me today and mentioned that he was looking for something a bit more mobile than working from home, and so I put this together to send him, as well as some information from a post I put up on a discussion board the other day that some of you might be interested in.
I personally understand the desire to be mobile. That's the direction I'm going as well. I don't have anything like a pension or sufficient savings to retire yet (I'm 29), so I have to keep working, but I've already decided that I want to join the ranks of the full time RV crowd by this coming spring.
I've started transitioning my CD sales on Amazon, for example, to a digital download model from my own web site, so that I don't have to be around to physically ship goods. I've also started selling on eBay, which permits digitally downloadable products.
In terms of work, one of the best things I've ever come across is something called field inspections. These can be done anywhere, and they encompass a wide variety of services. Eventually, I'm going to add a section to my web site about doing these, because they pay well ($25-$80 per inspection) and can be done by any reasonably intelligent person with a computer, digital camera, and good attention to detail. Getting into a complete description of it here is impractical, but start reading at the web site for the Society of Field Inspectors :
Keep an eye on my jobs site for an update with my info about it if you'd like.
I also make a bit of money every month from various types of affiliate marketing. Google Adsense, for example, plus other programs. I've got a CD I recorded about affiliate marketing, feel free to download the MP3 of it here:
http://www.weblaunch.org/Audio
Unarchive that compressed file, then there are the CD tracks in MP3 format.
In the spirit of the holidays, I'd also like to offer some of the other important recordings from the online business startup sequence that James and I recorded this summer. Most of this stuff is really, at the core, about marketing.

If you want to just do stuff online, my advice is to get a lot of little tiny niche things set up. Although a lot of the "gurus" out there will try to tell you how easy it is to make millions from one web site, I've not found that to be the case, at least for myself. But, it's pretty easy to make a few hundred bucks a month, and if you can do that 5 or 10 different ways, you can make a pretty good living. That's the approach I talk about on all the recordings linked to above.
I do want to also mention retail merchandising. If you've got some hands-on skills and, for some work, your own basic tools, merchandising can be great work, and it can be done anywhere in the country. Many positions actually involve quite a bit of travel, going from store to store setting things up. Merchandising is a huge field that includes the people handing you free cracker samples at Sam's Club and the people that set up merchandise displays at retail locations and the people taking inventory of all the Frito-Lay products at the convenience stores in a city. These positions are usually contract positions, and the pay isn't great, but it's significantly better than flipping burgers or scrubbing floors. $12 an hour is a common wage. The central location for finding this kind of work, anywhere in the country is the National Association for Retail
Marketing Services. I get two or three new job notices a week from them, asking me to apply. Go to:
and put together a profile in their system, called the Recruiter.
I hope this info has been helpful to some of you. Enjoy the season and Merry Christmas!

I got a LOT of emails yesterday from people asking me to remind them
what the link was to site. My apologies for not replying to you
individually, but I got so many requests for it that I'm just going
to include it here. As a matter of fact, I even moved it to a better
location, since I'm trying to consolidate a lot of related programs
and resources into one place.
So, here is the central location for the Jobs At Home lists:
http://www.HowToEarnHQ.com
You'll see there the data entry jobs list, which I went through
and cleaned up a bit, removing companies that are no longer hiring
or that have broken links. There are no new companies on the list
that are hiring right now.
I also put up a NEW list. These are companies that offer mystery
shopping services and online paid surveys. It's a pretty short list
but they're all reputable companies.
I record a lot of audiobooks on CD that discuss various aspects of
starting, running, and marketing a business, and I'm thinking about
doing one on mystery shopping, since it's such a big industry and
so many people get scammed by unreputable companies.
In the near future, I'm also going to add some resources and
company lists for merchandising, which is what I got into AFTER
mystery shopping. After that, I'll add an entire section on doing
field inspections, which is what I started doing after
merchandising, and still do a little bit of. In fact, I'm going out
to inspect a new dentist's office here in a couple hours. There
really is a natural progression to all this in how I did it, I
promise! ![]()
So, again, I've consolidated everything onto:
http://www.HowToEarnHQ.com
On the HowToEarnHQ.com site as a whole, I have a lot of other things
there if you want to spend the time poking around. In fact, some of
you may be interested in my CD reseller program. I've got several
people in that program that are making an extra few hundred dollars
a month. The info on that is located here:
http://www.weblaunch.org/ads/3
You can also read my "how to earn a living online" blog at:
http://www.HowToEarnHQ.com
And, I just recently created a brand new discussion forum at:
http://www.HowToEarnHQ.com
I hope nobody's confused with all the links, and that you all find
the new job lists useful.
As always, I'm always interested in your feedback about what I'm
putting out there, as well as comments, good or bad, about companies
and industries.
Take care!

I sent this out as an update to the Jobs At Home email list, but wanted to post it here also for the benefit of those of you that read the blog instead:
I just wanted to let everybody know about a couple things.
First of all, I *finally* have some updates to add to the data entry
jobs list, and I'll have those up tonight.
Second, I'm going to create a new page of mystery shopping and
legitimate online survey companies. The list is going to be very
short.
BIG REMINDER: NEVER, I repeat, NEVER, pay a fee to an online (or
offline, for that matter) company in order to get a JOB. There are
companies that will sell you lists of mystery shopping and survey
companies to go apply at, and they usually charge $20-$50 to have
access to that list. DO NOT DO IT....they're usually scams or just
rehashed copies of information you can get for free if you just
took the time to search around Google. If you want to get involved
with this sort of work, start with the list I'll be putting up
tonight, and branch out from there.
Third, I've created an online discussion forum at one of the web
sites that I run to teach business startup principles. The web site
itself is primarily geared towards customers of a line of products
that I put out AND the individuals that resell those products on
Amazon, eBay, and other places, but I've created a place for those
of you in this particular program if you want to hop on there
and discuss working in this sort of arena, balancing family and
work, as well as different companies to work with, etc. I know that
there are a lot of "work from home" discussion boards on the
Internet, but I hope this can be something a bit more personal and
not an arena where a bunch of people are just trying to get you
to buy all kinds of stuff you don't need.
Fourth, I've had a lot of people reply to me individually after
receiving one of the messages in this series and ask me what I'm
doing for a living now. I'm still doing occasional field inspection
work, the very occasional mystery shop if it's something fun, and
I'm doing a lot on Amazon with that line of audiobooks I've
recorded. Primarily, however, I'm working in real estate, both as
an investor and a broker. If you love working with people and can
stomach some of the ups and downs of being in sales, consider
getting your real estate license - it's probably the highest paying
part-time work you can ever do from home!
Alrighty, I've rambled enough for now. I sincerely appreciate all
the kind words that every has sent me, and I really do hope that
you are all getting some value out of this program. Remember also,
if you have a bad experience with any of the companies that are
on any of the jobs at home list, please don't hesitate to write to
me and let me know.
Take care, and make it a GREAT day!
Sincerely,
Jassen Bowman
